Four Essential Appliances to Add to Your Spring Cleaning

Spring is the perfect season for a big cleaning spree. The major parts of the house should be washed, vacuumed, and wiped down. Your appliances should also be looked over and cleaned. These pieces of equipment are used regularly but often overlooked until a repair is needed.

1. Refrigerator

The refrigerator helps preserve perishable foods. When cleaning, start by checking the coils. Look for dust buildup and clean them using a brush or cloth. Clean off spills and stains, and then wipe down all surfaces and shelves with a damp cloth. Hand-wash all miscellaneous items and containers with warm water. If there is mold or mildew, you should use a mold cleaner. Mold can be harmful to your health. Remove it before it spreads.

2. Washing Machine

If you’re dreaming of fresh-smelling clothes, it’s time to clean your washing machine. Start by removing the top of the machine. If there is any lint or dirt in the rubber gasket, you should clean it out before proceeding. Check your drainage hose. Run hot water from the sink through the hose to flush out the detergent residue. This will keep your washer running efficiently, reducing wear and tear on all parts inside. Check the drum and ensure it is clean. If any residue is left in the drum, you can use a cloth with soap and water to remove it.

3. Dishwasher

When your dishware is clean and shiny, it’s easy to forget that you must also maintain your dishwasher. First, remove the bottom panels where food particle residue can collect in hidden crevices. Check the filters, which usually collect bits of food. Clean the rubber gasket if there is any visible dirt or grime. If it appears as though mold is growing inside your dishwasher, you should use bleach to clean out the interior.

4. Stove

Wipe up spills as quickly as possible so they do not have time to accumulate on the surface of your stovetop. Do not use abrasive cleaners. They may damage the smooth surface or scratch it. For thorough cleaning, remove the knobs, grates, and screws from the stovetop. Hand-wash the grates and knobs using warm water. Clean the inside and outside of the stove with a cloth dampened with mild dish soap and water. After cleaning, wipe the stove with a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture.
